Humanity has spread to the stars. With it, corporations – now empires, fleets, and colonies, preside over mankind and both of its forms. The living, a diminutive and devalued rabble… even with cybernetics, their unruly habits and desire for compensation are an inconvenience to the greater powers. They’re a crop too young to harvest. Their inadequacies and organic-sin barely fit into the economy of power, agenda, and control. The second form, half-living and code-controlled, are the truest and most useful form of humanity. There numbers are innumerable. Without them, the corporations would cease to exist.
None of this would be possible without The Hollow. A rumor whispered in the corridors of stations. A joke passed between spacers and colonists. If it exists, then this is the resting place of the powerful. Where dreams of interstellar agendas brood over the toil of billions and the implications for generations to come. Such a place… if it exists, is where the immortals take turns sleeping, waking, implementing new strategies, and then going back to sleep.
When Isa became part of The Hollow, she was nothing. Less than nothing. Fleshy and dirty. Without augments and inefficient. One of those things that raced around, speechless, and eager to please. Now she’s among its most capable. Her mind can command waves of inferiors. Her exoframe is an extension of her body. Her companion, Ten, an extension of her mind.
But, there’s something coming. Something she can feel, even though she hasn’t felt anything in decades. Whatever it is, she can’t put a name to it… not yet.
When someone is released from their slumber early and another comes to visit The Hollow, Isa is forced take action. She must protect The Hollow at all costs. She must protect herself from going back.
