A STAR TOO FAR follows a saboteur as she attempts to disrupt and dismantle corporate reconstruction efforts in the wake of orbital bombardments. Gritty, ruthless and antagonistic, (a la Cyberpunk 2077, Altered Carbon, Total Recall and Neuromancer) this far-future story grabs sci-fi’s cautionary tale & cyberpunk’s neon-chrome aesthetic by their throats and squeezes until they go limp …until the glossy paint peels off of the mech armor, implants, and high-tech dystopia …until the only option left is to partition one’s own memory, lean into more escalation, and bend to others’ bad deals and agendas.
Kuyachi Rao is equipped with her own flavor of tech, a promise to her dead father, and a smoldering grudge against corpos. She’s ready to burn, hack and slash a path of revenge — but it’s going to take more than that to succeed. She’s going to need help, upgrades, and a dose of mysticism if she’s going to twist her way through the ruins of San Diego, the Drop, and a past that refuses to let go of her future.
This hard-boiled story is violent and savvy, inciting and cantankerous, and single-mindedly cascades through characters using leverage over one another. Everything a reader should want from a dark science fiction and cyberpunk action thriller.
Don’t let the pretty cover fool you. Inside this novel is the salt, blood, oil, and ash of our future. Our prosthetic faces are not our own, nor is the code that moves through our limbs. Hold on to what you have.
