Prior to the short stories and novellas within this series, there were a series of Corporation Wars. These conflicts weren’t just corporate fratricide. These were conflicts fought between mega-corporations – those with their own regions of space. Loosely beholden to the core systems (including Earth and the Sol system), they engaged in directed conflict and subterfuge.
When direct conflict erupted, it often meant both the living and the half-living went to war. Employees became the targets of their corporate competition and fought to secure their lives and livelihoods. In the same way, corpse units were provided with new instructions – support the war effort and utilize their more augmented bodies to inflict maximum damage on the competition.
Astral Twilight
A dark age in the future of mankind. There have been downturns in the evolution of human civilization: the decision to normalize body contracts and half-death, the creation of ubiquitous body modification, and the rebirth of original sin after the technological singularity. When it all came crashing down, humanity turned on itself and rained destruction across the face of their home world, Earth. The future didn’t leave the planet or the survivors behind though. No, the opportunity to build with the clay formed from the ash and blood of their origin was too much to ignore.
